Cryolipolysis, known as fat freezing or coolsculpting, is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure to eliminate fat cells in different parts of the body. Fat cells are literally frozen during the procedure, so they break down on their own and are naturally eliminated by the body. If you have stubborn belly fat you are considering trying to get rid of with the help of cryolipolysis, there are a few pros and cons you should know in advance.

Pro: Cryolipolysis does not require surgery or hospital admission.

Unlike regular liposuction, cryolipolysis is not a surgical procedure, so you will not have to be admitted into the hospital to get the treatment. The procedure is most often done right in the doctor's office. You can stop in for your procedure appointment and then go on with your day without having to worry about anything like anesthesia, staying in the hospital for recovery, or having to commit a lot of time to get the procedure done.

Con: You may need multiple treatments to see the results that you want.

The fat in the belly can be a little more stubborn than some other parts of the body, especially with a non-invasive procedure like cryolipolysis. Most patients do have to have a series of treatments instead of just one to achieve the results they want to see. For example, the doctor may have you come in for a treatment every few weeks for a total of four treatment procedures.

Pro: Cryolipolysis is basically a painless procedure.

About the only thing you will feel when you have cryolipolysis treatments done is a sucking sensation in the area the machine is being used. You will also feel a coldness in the targeted area of your stomach. However, you should not feel a lot of pain at all. The overall treatment, and every part of the treatment, should not be all that uncomfortable to undergo.

Con: The results will not be the same as what you would see with traditional liposuction.

Traditional lipo is a procedure that involves going in and actually removing a higher volume of fatty tissue at one time. Cryolipolysis, in general terms, is not going to yield the same dramatic results for people who have a lot of belly fat. Those who are severely overweight may not see the same results. Fat freezing is generally best for stubborn pockets of fat that cause undesirable bulges in problematic areas.
